This is our sweet and dear Sébastien just 3 days after his fluid around his precious heart was removed in the Intensive Care Unit. What a precious picture, it is one of my favorites, to show you how much Sébastien is enjoying life despite some difficult times and it is such a perfect example how Sébastien taught us to enjoy every moment we have and to live it to the fullest.......

We would like to thank all of you for praying for our precious son during this difficult time and challenge with his water around his precious heart and thank God and the blessed Virgin Mary for watching over him......

Sébastien also would like to thank his wonderful aunty Jacqueline who came down to see him and was there with us praying and supporting all three of us during this most difficult time hoping that everything would be fine again. Thank you soooo much, it meant a looooooooooot to us that you were with us during this difficult time, to have your shoulder to lean on and to keep us going .... xoxoxo

Also a big thank you to Daniella with her wonderful family who gave us sooo much encouragement and for your visits, thank you to the nurses and doctors that supported us during this difficult time, to our friends and families......

The water on Sébastien's heart was worse than the Doctors had suspected, as the dialysis machine is unable to remove it from his system. Unfortunately, Sébastien will have to be operated on, and is presently in the O.R.
The operation has good chances of being successful.

Sébastien's birthday was such a beautiful celebration....

we honoured especially Sébastien's organ donor, his silent hero as well as our beloved son Sébastien for his heroic battle of life and gave thank's to God for everything he has done for us.....

It was such a wonderful celebration embracing the GIFT OF LIFE and many tears of joys were shared in apprecciaten for such a beautiful journey that our son Sébastien is sharing with all of us....

There are not enough words to say thank you for all the wonderful greetings we got for his 2nd birthday.... each one of them means sooooo much to us..... thank you to everyone that helped to decorate the Teddy bear Theater, for being sooo generous with your donations towards 6A Floor/Transplantfloor of the Sick Kids hospital, the Floor Sébastien is calling his home for now....., thank you for all your gifts from near and far and thank you to everyone contributing to Sébastien's Scrapbook send from Winnipeg from our friends..... this was soooooooooo special and means a loooooooot to us...... thank you for everything..... xoxoxoxoxo

.....what a blessing to see Sebastien bloom and change sooo much..... since we are on the 6th floor there has been sooo many blessings and we are praising God for each one of them....

....... Sebastien has been going out for stroller rides many times during the day

....... Sebastien is nearly sitting by himself with the loving help of our Physio Team

...... Sebastien dressed up on Halloween and went trick a treating in the hospital

..... Sebastien has been going outside the hospital to visit the Ronald MacDonald House, ST.
Patrick church, etc....

I would like to share with you those two pictures of Sebastien.

The picture to the left shows our dear Sebastien after his bath one night in March 2006 . ( did you notice how yellow he is, due to his damaged liver)

The second picture shows our sweet Sebastien with his loving Papa just about 3 weeks after his life-saving transplant in Toronto and tears come to my eyes of Joy to see him in such great spirits, health, colour..... etc......

We are soooooo blessed and thankfull for our beloved Sebastien's transplant and for the generosity of the donor's family to share their gift of Life to life on in our son..... there are not enough words to thank but only prayers that we offer to God for this marvellous Gift of Life .......

Sebastien has touched and changed sooo many Lifes and he his indeed an amazing inspiration to me and to all of us to live each day to the fullest and to thank God for our Gift of Life ......

Our sweet Sebastien is doing really well and enjoys to sit in his highchair to play and to watch his favorite shows like Barney, Teletubis ....

Since a week Sebastien is off his TPN..... yeahh and he is on full feeds. This was a day to celebrate.

He even was aloud to go in his stroller on Thanksgiving day for a littel walk around the 2nd floor of the hospital...... what a special moment for all of us .... let's give thanks to the Lord for all his blessing and marvellous things..... Sebastien seems to be sooo happy and let's pray for his kidneys to start again ..... xoxoxo

Sebastien our little angel has improved once more today. He is now being fed 20cc of formula per hour. Yahoooooo. Thank you so much for all your prayers. He is absorbing his formula which is a great sign, and his visit to the operating room went very well. Please continue to keep him in your prayers for his progress. Sebastien was sitting in his bed today without any back support. He is so strong and so jolly. It's very uplifting for us to see his progress.

Sébastien is in critical care in order to be under close supervision by the medical staff in Toronto. Though there is nothing that seems to be seriously wrong, his condition in general is not as excellent as his doctors would like and involves a variety of things... namely his kidneys, and his digestion.

David is returning to Toronto after a brief stay in Winnipeg. One evening after a phone call with Jasmina, David told us: "Jasmina says hi, and asks you guys to say a little prayer for Sébastien before going to bed." Such a simple request no doubt already has a heartfelt response.

Sebastien was

sitting today for the first time up in a chair in his new big boy bed....

now David and I can cuddle with him in his new bed and it is soooo nice to be close to him to give him

all our Love.

He is put on Hemodialysis to take off some more fluid

Sebastien went to the O.R. on Monday to close him up a little bit more and since that went well he is enjoying his new formula to stimulate his bowel.

Every Monday and Thursday Sebastien has his biopsy done and dressing changes, those days are very busy for him and at the end of the day he is very tired.

On Wednesday Sebastien had a more challenging day but by Thursday morning he was again himself just laughing and playing away. We thank God for all He does for us.

It is soooooo nice to see him play with his toys and read his favorite books with us. Last weekend we were blessed with the visit of Nathalie & Mike with their baby boy Jacob, it was soooo nice to spend time with them.

Sébastien only went to the O.R. this afternoon as his condition was stable enough throughout the night, although his bleeding continued intermittently. The doctors were unable to find the cause of the blood loss, leaving David and Jasmina with their own theories... Perhaps the upper G.I. test, given yesterday to see if Sébastien's bowel could receive food, may have had something to do with it, possibly pushing old blood from his bowel into his ostomy bag. On a more positive note however, the doctors found no signs of rejection or infection and will continue to keep a close eye on him for the next few days.

Jasmina and David seem to enjoy their stay at the Ronald McDonald house, meeting other parents with sick children and sharing both the happy and sad moments of such an experience. Despite the emotional challenges of having a little one in the hospital, they are grateful for the support of parents in similar situations.

Our sweet Love Sebastien is doing really great and since late Saturday afternoon we can hear our littel miracle boy cry again as they took out his breathing tube....yeahhhhh.... with tears in our eyes we welcomed his first attempts to cry again as his voice is still a littel bit soft after having a breathing tube in for over 2 weeks...... it feels sooooo great to hear his voice again....

We are sooo blessed and give thanks to God for every day and we were also so blessed with some dear visitors that came to support us during our stay here in Toronto..... we spend a lovely afternoon with Jennifer on Friday and we were blessed with Father Paul who brought us Holy Communion to give us all strenght as well we welcomed also Stacey & Scott who came to visit our amazing Sebastien and were soooo nice to bring our Camera from Winnipeg and we would like to thank our friend Stephanie & Marc who sent us with them their Love and some treats for us to ensure we stay healthy and strong.

Sébastien keeps doing better. He gave his parents a beautiful smile yesterday, and started playing with his toys. Doctors are planning to take him off the respirator tomorrow.

Sébastien came out of O.R. this evening. Doctors found some blood clots, but were able to remove them. The biopsy indicated some little signs of rejection, but only for the small bowel. Sébastien was given meds for that. Doctors say this is not unusual and things should improve with the meds. Sébastien's liver is functioning very well.
We would like to thank our families and friends for their amazing support, for the emails, comments, phone calls, etc... sent to us during this time in Toronto. It has been very uplifting to read through them. They are very encouraging. We would like to answer each and everyone of you but "time" doesn't permit. We are so fortunate being welcomed with open arms by Nathalie, Mike, Jacob and Uncle Roger who came from Montréal and by Father Paul and friend and many more whom we've met here on our journey.... Please, continue to pray for Sebastien. He had more tests, and his white blood cells count was too high. Doctors are taking him to O.R. to find out what's happening, if he is developing an infection and what needs to be done.

We would really like to thank the team of doctors, nurses and staff of Children's hospital in Winnipeg for their amazing work that halped us get here, as well as our friends and all the people who helped us in so many ways. And we want to thank our new team in Sick Kids Hospital here in Toronto: doctors, nurses, staff.... people and families we meet: they've touched us in so many ways. We are so thankful for God's blessings. What's happening now is a true miracle, and everyone has a part in it.
To clarify what was written in a previous message, Sébastien is on dialysis to clean all the toxins, and because his kidneys needed "a break". And, as he is on dialysis, he doesn't need the medication he would have been taking otherwise: thus, there is no longer a danger of deafness for Sébastien. We have to hope and pray that his kidneys will work normally again when he will be off dialysis.
We would like to ask all our friends to keep praying for Sébastien and for the family who lost their child and were open to donate his organs, so that they may find comfort and peace in this difficult time, and for all the sick children in the world....
We hope that Sébastien's website can be a testimony, and that other parents can find hope in his story.

Sébastien keeps doing well. He was going for a biopsy this afternoon to check if everything is well. There will also be an interview on the Manitoba news (CBC french) at 6.00 p.m. (replay at 11.00 p.m.)

Sébastien's recovery has been going well and he is showing no signs of rejection. He has been given a kidney dialysis. Doctors continue to give him muscle relaxants and David and Jasmina are excited to see that his color is changing. They are also getting full nights of sleep... catching up on "les nuits blanches"!

In the elation of a transplant, successful so far, that seemed only to be a dream some 6 days ago, the parents have a special thought for the family whose child died, allowing Sébastien to have the organs. They also hope things continue to progress as well as they have until now. Yesterday he opened his eyes.

Another day of blessings for Sébastien, Jasmina and David, as thing keep going well. Sébastien opened his eyes and his parents were so thankful to see that their color had changed from yellow to white. Jasmina's tears were tears of joy.

A brief note...

Last night's operation went well. Sébastien even seems to be gaining some color. The bowel transplant also seems to have been successful as his bowel is showing signs of functioning well.

Back to the OR

Tonight the doctors learned that during the transplant, they slightly nicked Sébastien's diaghragm. Sébastien must return to the Operating Room for a 2 hour operation to correct the diaghragm and loosen the stitches which put pressure on the kidneys and impeded Sébastien from being able to urinate.

David and Jasmina's "Little Angel" is quite puffy and lies still in his crib. The hospital has accepted to have David and Jasmina stay for three nights, as there is an important HIV conference in Toronto and "there is no room at the Inn".

Sébastien endured a 12 hour operation yesterday, while his parents, no doubt very anxious, drank coffee to stay awake, awaiting the doctor's news. The operation went successfully... the liver was transplanted and fit without the doctors having to cut it. The intestines were transplanted second and the incision will not be fully closed for another month. Since Sébastien's lower abdomen remains open, he is heavily sedated and visits from his parents are quite limited. As with most major operations, the 48 hours following are most critical.

Sébastien's liver and small bowel operation is only the third this year... The one previous, effectuated in June, on a little girl named Isabella, was successful so far, and needless to say, has boosted David and Jasmina's hopes. Little Isabella was close to Sébastien in age and weight at the time of her operation and is now sitting and eats Cheerios! For Sébastien, things seem to be going well...

And for us, the impatient question that nags us asking "What's gonna happen?" is met with an answer in a picture: hope, like a butterfly, gently alights on a sun dappled flower. So pretty and light, it warms its wings in the rays and lets us forget that it was once a caterpillar that had carefully hid itself away from our view as time worked its miracle.

Further details - Friday morning

Sébastien has been accepted as candidate to receive the organ donation. David and Jasmina only left for Toronto around 8:00 last evening with the hope that the 50/50 chance would be in their favor this time. The decision, made this morning around 5:00 a.m., will lead to his being operated around 10:00 our time. The organs are slightly larger than they should be for Sébastien's small body, however the doctors figure that it will be as good a chance as Sébastien can get for a transplant - his stomac will remain open for a week as a consequence.

The call - Thursday

Since Sunday, Sébastien's health has seemed precarious... His potassium dangerously high, then dangerously low. He spent Tuesday evening in intensive care, and stopped by again this morning. His blood pressure high and low. He's also had internal bleeding these last few days, though today he seemed better, smiling and making noise. I'd no sooner spoken to Jasmina around 3:00, when at 3:50 she called to say that Sébastien had been called to Toronto for a transplant was available. When asked if we could do anything, she said to pray that Sébastien is strong enough...

Hello Everyone!

Thank you sooo much for all your prayers for our little son Sebastien during this difficult time in intensive care as well as during the times when the internal bleedings were soo intense and David and Me felt sometimes sooo helpless because we could only pray they would stop and hope and wish for a transplant soon.... thank you soo much for all your support during this difficult time with your prayers, wonderful visits, comforting food, picking up stuff from our house, watering the garden, sitting with Sebastien.... etc.....

Sebastien is now back on CK5 and he is in room 569 with a beautiful view over downtown... despite all the difficult times he had to go through he is smilling more and sooo happy.... what an inspiration for David and Me... he is definitly in the hands of God who has an incredible mission with our littel Sebastien.....We are sooo blessed to still have him after the 2 events that happened, because we came very close to loosing him.......Our team of doctors had a meeting with us and they informed us that it is a miracle Sebastien is still alive and that there where definitly angels watching over him when it happened. The team informed us also that we should be prepared for more events like that and David, Grandpapa and Me already took a CPR - Course for infants....and from now on Sebastien and Jasmina will always carry their own cell phone with them to be able to call 911.....

Calling all angels...

Please continue to pray for Sebastien and family through this difficult time. Sebastien was at the hospital for his usual appointment on Tuesday, June 27 when he began to turn blue and his blood pressure was so low it did not register. Thanks to the quick work of the doctors, Sebastien was resuscitated. Unfortunately, he is bleeding directly from his bowel, which is an indication of internal bleeding. He is currently in PICU on the third floor of the Winnipeg Children's Hospital.

Our littel angel is sitting in his stroller, customized due to is bleeding issues, and enjoys exploring the world. He shows Mommy and Pappa by pointing with his cute little hand in different directions that he would like to go and we have a hard time to keep up with all the different places he wants us to bring him......(Smile)

Sebastien is now over 17 months old and he is such a happy and strong baby. The past couple of weeks he enjoyed short visits at home and strollerwalks in the beautiful nature with his family. Sebastien had on one occasion a more serious bleed and he lost quiete some blood...... all your prayers are protecting our little angel ......Sebastien is teething and some nights and days are long for him. He enjoys talking more and we are working on helping him to sit safely, due to his bleeding issues he is very limited to sit, and he is all determined to learn to walk.

Sebastien is nun schon 17 Monate alt und er ist ein frohliches und lebenslustiges Baby. Seit den letzten Wochen geht Sebastien spazieren in der wunderschonen Natur mit seiner Familie. In den letzten Wochen hatte Sebastien eine Episode wo er ein bischen mehr geblutet hatte.....eure Gebete beschutzen unseren lieben Engel...... Seit mehreren Wochen bekommt Sebastien seine Zahne und manchmal ist die Nacht und der Tag sehr lang.... Sebastien lernt nun wieder zu sitzen, da er durch seine Blutungen sehr limitiert war, und er will auch versuchen zu laufen.

Sebastien participated at the Easter Egg Hunt at the Childrens Hospital last Thursday. Our friend Paul joined in the hunting fun. Sebastien made a new friend ... a stuffed Bunny holding an egg with a singing chick inside!
